The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau.
The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau is a young adult fantasy as well as a science fiction, that was published on June 4th, 2013. I found this at the school library. I found this book when I asked one of my friends who happened to be a media aide to show me her favorite book in the entire library, she advised me to read this book. When I looked at the blurb on the back of the book I found it interesting, ad that is why I decided to read it.
The Testing is about a sixteen year old girl who’s name is Malencia Vale but everyone just calls her Cia. This book takes place in futuristic America where there is one big city Tosu City and many colonies around it. There are many colonies, for sometimes new colonies get built but they also die. Cia lives in the Five Lakes Colony. There she lives with her mother, father and four brothers near the outskirts of their colony. Her father the only one who went to the testing and passed through the testing in their family. The government has laws that say after you graduate school you can either become an apprentice or they areyou are chosen for the testing. The testing is a program that only the smartest get into, and even after that there are tests to evaluate people until the testing officials are left with twenty people. Then those people become leaders of the colonies or government officials. It is a great honor to be chose for the testing but once chosen you can not leave or you will face the death penalty. After Cia graduates she is chosen for the testing along with three other kids from her class: Tomas, Malachi, and Zandri. Her family is delighted when they find out but something is off about her dad. Then on the last night that Cia would spend with her family her father takes her on a walk and tells her about these strange dreams that he gets, only they aren't dreams. The last thing he tells her before she leaves is to trust no one and to be careful. Ignoring her father's advice Cia becomes Partners with Tomas and tells him everything that her father told her. Once at the testing facilities, the candidates go through four stages of testing. The first being the easiest as it was the paper test. The next not so much, and the third just proves what Cia’s father warned her about, she shouldn't trust anyone. As her friends leave her one by one she is left to face the last challenge on her own, but she isn’t alone for Tomas stays with her. Near the beginning of the book Cia realizes that all
