What is child abuse? Ezine Article (2011) states that, "Child abuse can be defined as intended or unintended harm to a child by another person who may be parents, relatives or guardians." (p.1). There are four major categories which are physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse and emotional abuse. The cases in Malaysia are getting serious, according to Social Welfare Department of Malaysia indicated each year at least 1,000 children in Malaysia are reported as victims. Hence, government, community, school, mass media and family must cooperate to provide solutions in order to prevent child abuse.
First of all, government plays an important role in child abuse prevention. Summary retrieved from EzineArticles(2011) , "Government and non-government agencies must work together to organize more child abuse prevention campaign to help the children escape from abuse as well as educate the public to love their children." (p.4). So, during the campaign, brochure should be given out to the public to raise awareness on child abuse issues.
Secondly, community should take up their responsibilities in the effort to prevent child abuse. Community members must be concern about their neighbour, get to know their neighbour's name with the name of their children. According to Ruby Cha Cha (2011), "As a part of community members, we must cooperate with the police, or report those suspicious situation and cases to the related authority like the local child welfare agency." (p.5). Therefore, if all the community members are carrying out and would not neglect their duties, then this little action would save a child.
